The Good News | Our Redemption

Luke 2:10-11 (ESV) And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

What did Jesus accomplish for us by his coming?

1. OUR ATONEMENT AND RECONCILIATION WITH GOD

We Have Been Given Direct Access & Personal Relationship With God

Romans 3:23-25 (NLT)

I Peter 3:18 (NIV) For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God…

I John 4:10 (NIV) This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Romans 5:10 (NIV) For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

Hebrews 10:19-20 (NLT) And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place.

2. OUR RANSOM AND REDEMPTION

We Have Been Given New Standing And Status Before God

Mark 10:45 (ESV) He came not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Colossians 2:13-14

Colossians 1:13-14 (NIV) For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

John 8:36 (NIV) So if the Son sets in you free, you will be free indeed.

Galatians 5:1 (NIV) It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

3. OUR SANCTIFICATION AND MATURITY IN CHRIST

We Have Been Given a New Nature And Spiritual Life

Ephesians 1:13-14 And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

Galatians 3:3 How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?

Galatians 5:17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
